Response details:
Dear Cllr Ioannou
There were some 150 on-street charge points across the borough at the end of March 2023. Details of the location of these are set out on the Council?s website.
We have temporarily paused the installation of additional charge points whilst we complete the necessary legal agreements with our PFI lighting contractor to place some 900 slow charges on their lighting columns. In additional, we have been finalising documents to enable us to go out to tender for an initial tranche of 17 rapid charges (increasing to 35 rapid charges by 2026).
We are also currently working on a bid for Local Electric Vehicles Infrastructure (LEVI) funding to enable us to access grant funding to help with the roll-out of around 260 fast chargers across the borough.
At present, I can confirm that the Council does not plan to install charges points on private land.
Regards
Head of Highways, Traffic & Parking
Original enquiry description:
Can I please ask the department how many electric car chargers for public use have been installed in this calendar year? What incentives and schemes are the borough looking into to encourage installations? Does the council look into installating into private parking sites alongside private firms?
