This email has been sent and confirmed to Councillors in Southgate as a result of the pressures applied to Enfield Council regarding the parking situation outside the Hart Lounge. Your Councillors are happy with the action taken and the new attempts following the initial installation to get even more bollards installed. Full response below:
Response
Dear Cllr Ioannou,
Please find attached an email I sent recently regarding this problem which explains our approach on dealing with this issue.
As our Highways Minor Improvement Budget of £10,000 has finally been approved and released, one of my engineers will be attending site tomorrow to assess the situation. We are looking to install a minimum of an additional four bollards to reduce the ability to illegally park on the footpath. It is obvious that the people carrying out this parking have scant regard for the rules of the highway and the feelings of any pedestrians using these footpaths. Installing more bollards may only result in pushing the problem further down the road or around the corner. With a 90% reduction in our budget, we are going to have to approach this as a phased response to the problem and be selective on where we think the our works can be the most effective. Simply surrounding the area with bollards will move the issue elsewhere and reduce our capacity to carryout any urgent works throughout the rest of the year.
An order will be raised with our contractor next week and I will update you as soon as I have more information on potential start dates. I have also included Parking into this email on the hope that they can increase the enforcement in the area.
