Dear Cllr Stephanos Ioannou,
Thank you for your enquiry.
We are aware of the rat infestation on the Maze Inn public house site on Crown Lane and met with the owner of Fio’s, who owns the site on the 15.08.23. There was major rat activity on this site and the Southgate members club next door. Lots of burrows located, along with sightings. The owner of the old Maze Inn site arranged a pest control treatment during my visit and Ates pest control are scheduled to attend today between 12-1pm. I also met with Chris Gurney the chairman of the Southgate members club, who also arranged their pest control contractor to attend tomorrow to treat the burrow holes. I have received both pest control contactors reports and a comprehensive pest control treatment is ongoing.
In addition, I have contacted our street cleansing, waste enforcement and commercial waste teams regarding the fly tip that builds up around the commercial bins. I have been informed that Street cleansing visit the site daily and the commercial waste bins are emptied 4 x per week.
We will continue to monitor the site until the rat infestation is fully eradicated.

When will they be forced to rebuild the pub frontage they illegally demolished?
Good question- the department are yet to give an ETA
Still in the legal battle and not ETA of end date of decision
Thank you! It has been sad to see the deterioration of Crown Lane and the high street in general
