MEQ- Rain-gardens / SUDS in Southgate

Response details:

Dear Cllr Stephanos Ioannou,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the protection of the newly installed rain gardens and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) in Southgate.

The Journeys and Places team is aware of concerns around vehicles mounting the pavement in the vicinity of the rain gardens. While there have been observations of vehicles parking inappropriately, it appears that the issue largely relates to vehicles parking in front of the rain gardens rather than directly within them.

Given this, the installation of bollards within the rain gardens is unlikely to act as an effective deterrent to stop vehicles parking illegally on the double yellow lines. Instead, we have contacted Parking Services and requested that they increase enforcement presence in the area to help address this behaviour.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely to understand how it evolves and assess whether further measures may be required. The team remains committed to delivering public realm improvements that are both effective and sustainable. As part of the wider Enfield Transport Strategy and our approach to enhancing local environments, we will ensure that public assets are protected where necessary.

Kind regards,
Communications Officer
Journeys and Places | London Borough of Enfield
