UK Thalassaemia Society

The UK Thalassaemia Society (UKTS) is the national charity dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by thalassaemia, an inherited blood disorder that requires lifelong medical care. Founded in 1979 and based in Southgate, the Society has become a leading voice for patients, promoting awareness, education and improved healthcare while working to enhance the quality of life for those living with the condition.

The charity’s ethos is centred on compassion, equality and advocacy. It strives to ensure that every person affected by thalassaemia has access to the highest standards of treatment, specialist care and emotional support, regardless of their background or circumstances. UKTS also works to educate healthcare professionals, schools and the wider public, helping to improve understanding of the condition and reduce misconceptions.

Alongside its support services, the Society plays an important role in campaigning for improved healthcare provision, encouraging early diagnosis through screening programmes and supporting research into better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for thalassaemia. It works closely with clinicians, researchers, government bodies and international organisations to advance patient care and influence public health policy.

Beyond its medical and advocacy work, the UK Thalassaemia Society fosters a strong sense of community by bringing together patients, families and supporters through educational events, awareness campaigns, fundraising initiatives and social activities. These programmes provide practical support while ensuring that those living with thalassaemia never feel isolated.

As a proud supporter of the UK Thalassaemia Society, Stephanos recognises the invaluable contribution the charity makes both locally in Southgate and across the United Kingdom. He has long supported its mission to improve patient care, raise public awareness and champion medical research, reflecting his commitment to supporting organisations that make a meaningful difference to the lives of individuals and families within the community.
