illegal parking of motorbikes around the Southgate area- MEQ

Response details:

Dear Cllr Stephanos Ioannou,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the illegal parking of motorbikes around the Southgate area.

If a motorbike is parked on the footway we can enforce by issuing a Penalty Charge Notice. However this is difficult if the motorbike rider is present or nearby which is specifically in relation to fast food delivery vehicles as they leave the location once the enforcement officer arrives to then return once the officer leaves.

Due to limited resources that are required to cover the whole of the Borough we cannot have an officer at specific locations at all times. Although an additional 2 officers have been assigned to the Southgate area.

Other ways of dealing with this problem are being discussed. Communication is taking place with the companies themselves and other teams within the Council to find a solution as well as London Councils as this problem is not limited to Enfield.

Kind Regards
Parking Services

Original enquiry description:

Good evening department I want to raise some serious concerns about the state of Southgate particularly around Southgate Circus situation is that motorbikes are blatantly parking on the pavement and obstructing pedestrians. What is the current situation and what legislation is in place to make sure that motorbikes are ticketed correctly, as I have never seen an Enfield traffic warden enforce a parking enforcement notice on a motorbike driver in the area.

Surely there must be some sort of patrolling that that is happening around here now please do not respond and tell me that you are patrolling the area. I’m want to know exactly what you’re doing against motorbikes in particular because this is becoming really continuous and it seems that there is no end and no enforcement at all and it is really making the area look very shabby indeed .
