Dear Department,
I have a resident who lives along Lakenheath, Southgate N14. This resident has had the unfortunate event of tripping over a badly constructed part of pavement, and subsequently has bruised and hurt themselves.
May I add this is an 85 year old resident, and even still I have other residents who have emailed me regarding the poor state of the pavement along the road.
- Can I ask for an investigation into the pavement along Lakenheath?
- Can I ask officers if they see this part as on the renewal scheme?
Response
Dear Cllr Ioannou,
Thank you for your recent enquiry about Lakenheath, Southgate.
The Pavement Renewal Team has informed me that A number of factors are taken into consideration when prioritising pavements for maintenance as part of the capital programme, but due to limited finance for highway works in the current economic climate, the over-riding principle is to treat those in the worst condition. They appreciate that the pavements in Lakenheath may be cracked and not look aesthetically pleasing, but as long as there are not a significant number of defects, it is not appropriate to include a road or sections of road that are not in need of renewal compared to other pavements across the borough.
If the resident is concerned about a specific location which they feel presents an immediate danger, please ask them to provide a more detailed description and a Highway Officer will inspect within the next 10 days. In the meantime, they will continue to inspect this road on a six-monthly basis and any defects at our agreed intervention levels will be identified and issued to our contractor for repair.
The Highways Team can confirm Lakenheath is inspected 6 monthly. The road was inspected on 07.09.20 and all defects within LBE intervention levels would have been sent to the contractor for repair. If the resident finds there is still an issue at a specific location, please can they advise the exact location e.g. outside a property, by a lamp column number or junction of a road, please advise and the highways officer will reinspect that location.
I hope this answers your enquiry.
