MEQ- Avenue Road / Chase Side junction speeding

•

Original Email:

For some time I have been aware that the cross road junction at the top of Avenue Road (leading on to Osidge Lane and Chase Side) is hazerdous. Can I please ask if the department are looking into the issue and if they are planning on doing another review of road safety in the proximitey as there has now been another incident?

Response:

Thank you for your enquiry.

The Council are aware of the road safety issues at this junction particularly for pedestrians and a report written. However, at present there is no funding available to implement the  proposal.

Unfortunately, our funding for road safety comes directly from TfL, not council budgets, and we have had to prioritise how that public resource is spent. This is to be used at locations where people are being killed and injured on a regular basis. The rationale for this is twofold. Firstly, it is the right thing to do, prioritising locations that have a history of road traffic collisions causing death and injury and secondly, the patterns allow us to design the most appropriate solution to the problem and use public funds efficiently.

As part of the Council’s commitment to help deliver the Mayor’s Vision Zero, we have developed a prioritisation tool to help ensure that our limited resources are focussed on road safety schemes likely to deliver the greatest safety benefits. At the moment this junction is not at the very top of our priorities.
