MEQ- Crown Lane One Way

Response details:

Dear Cllr Stephanos Ioannou,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding Crown Lane in Southgate.

Crown Lane has been designated as one-way to manage traffic flow and prevent it from being overwhelmed by drivers seeking to bypass the busy Southgate Circus intersection. While the road itself is not inherently unsuitable for two-way traffic, the current arrangement supports safety and efficiency for local residents and road users.

The existing signage at the Chase Way end of Crown Lane is intended to clearly indicate the one-way restriction. This location is not enforced by fixed or mobile camera systems. As such, we are unable to provide statistics on the number of instances where drivers have been caught going the wrong way.

Collision data for UK roads is publicly available at www.crashmap.co.uk, and over the past 25 years, Crown Lane has recorded six injury incidents, all classified as ?slight injuries.? We fully recognise that any injury is regrettable and take all safety concerns seriously. However, with limited resources, the Council must prioritise roads in the borough with a higher number of recorded accidents to ensure the greatest impact on road safety improvements.

Kind regards,

Original enquiry description:

Can I please ask what the department is doing along crown Lane in Southgate to make sure that residents do know that it is a one-way road? We have heard of numerous occasions where vehicles end up going the opposite end down the wrong way causing a danger to oncoming motorists. The situation is unacceptable. Whilst I appreciate that there is signage at the Chaseway end, this still doesn?t deter people from using it to go the other way.

Can I also please get the statistics for the number of collisions and the number of incident down Crown Lane? Have there been any fatalities? How many instances have the local authority caught people going down the wrong way?
