MEQ- Fly-tipping – Orchard Avenue & Avenue Road

•

Response details:

Dear Cllr Stephanos Ioannou,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding ongoing fly-tipping on Orchard Avenue and Avenue Road.

An inspection has been carried out, however at the time, no sacks were found. Enforcement Officers have been asked to monitor this location throughout the week and more specifically on a Monday where possible, to see if waste can be identified and searched for evidence.

Formal enforcement action will be taken where sufficient evidence allows.

If resident witness an incident of fly-tipping, and are willing to provide details in the form of a witness statement, the matter can be investigated further.

Kind regards,

Waste Enforcement Officer

Original enquiry description:

In the last couple of months there have been incidents of routine flytipping at the junction of Avenue Road and Orchard Avenue, with up to six black binbags dumped every Sunday or Monday morning. Our bin collections are on a Monday morning.

It used to be just Orchard Avenue but now it has spread just around the corner to Avenue Road near the 299 bus stop.
Orchard Road, where the bins are dumped, is a ‘blind spot’ with brick walls and no windows for residents to keep an eye out.

I appreciate there is not a lot the council can do about this nuisance, but can they at least ask the bin men to collect the flytipped bags rather than leaving them there. The bags are often ripped open by foxes and the spilled waste does include nappies.

I hope you can help.
