Thank you for your email and for bringing these concerns to our attention.

The Council does undertake verge cutting and grounds maintenance across the borough as part of its scheduled maintenance programme.

Where vegetation from private properties is obstructing or encroaching onto a public footpath, this should be reported to the Council’s Highways Service for investigation. Property owners are responsible for ensuring that hedges, trees and shrubs growing from their land do not obstruct the public highway or footway.

If residents choose to cut back their own vegetation, they are responsible for disposing of all cuttings themselves. Vegetation cuttings should not be left on the public highway, verge or footway, as this may be treated as littering or fly-tipping and can create an obstruction for pedestrians and other highway users.

Regarding the pile of hedge cuttings left following your recent hedge maintenance at the corner of Meadway and Greenway, the Council does not routinely collect hedge cuttings left on the highway. Any green waste generated from private gardening work should be removed and disposed of by the resident through the appropriate waste disposal route.
