MEQ- Orchard Avenue Southgate

Dear Cllr Stephanos Ioannou,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the vegetation overgrowing the street name plate in Orchard Avenue N14. I can confirm that highways officer inspected the location on 13/05/26 and found that the from previous communication the vegetation had been cut back by the resident away from the SNP.
However, the vegetation could be cut back again to help the sign be more clearer for pedestrians and vehicle users. A letter has been issued to 44 Orchard Way to cut back this location within 28 days. As per Highways Act 1980 Section 154 as overhanging vegetation is considered an obstruction. I have asked the highways officer to reinspect post the 28 days. Please note that the council are not responsible or have the resources /budget for cutting back private residents vegetation. The highways team request the works to be carried out within a set time. If after this time the works are not a carried out a request is sent to Environmental Crime department who would look at the individual cases to see if they need to take the matter further.

I hope this information is helpful.

Regards,
