Response to Enquiry
Dear Cllr Stephanos Ioannou,
Thank you for your enquiry regarding the waste collection issue at Southgate Chase Allotment. I apologise for the delayed response; several members of our team have been on annual leave.
I have met with the Parks and Street Cleansing Team, and we are currently developing a cleansing schedule to address the issue. I will update you as soon as a decision is reached.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Kind regards,
Allotment Development Officer
Original enquiry description:
I am writing yet again to get the issue of litter collection on the path through Southgate Chase Allotments sorted. I received a reply from the Operational Delivery Manager Street Cleansing on 9 October last when you last tried to deal with this issue.
Part of his reply stated ?None of this footpath is actually public highway?. It is a public footpath and therefore some section of the council must be responsible for litter collection. He further states ? Street Cleansing have sometimes litter picked, emptied the bin and cleared fly tipping. It is not their responsibility to maintain this land. The responsibility lies with the Leisure department??
No one has been on site to pick up litter or remove fly tipping since October. The rubbish bin was taken away years ago and the dog waste bin last August. Prior to this a council van visited the site regularly twice a week to empty the rubbish bin and litter pick. It was a regular occurrence not a ?sometimes? occurrence. I have no idea if this was Street Cleansing or the Leisure Department.
The path is a busy public footpath.
While we are left in limbo because no one on the council can organise a 5 minute weekly visit to remove rubbish, plot holders are having to put up with litter drifting onto their plots.
Could you possibly find out which department is responsible for the maintenance of this public footpath.
