Good afternoon all,
Receiving reports from residents today that the Christmas tree in Southgate is on the verge of collapsing and/or falling down entirely. Can I please ask for a team to investigate tonight to avoid it falling entirely on the road and potentially injuring / killing someone. Logging as an MEQ isn’t good enough this needs to be done ASAP. Because of urgency have CCD Cheif Exec so it’s high priority.

Good afternoon Councillor Ioannou
Following receipt of your report last night regarding the leaning Christmas tree, emergency instructions were placed with both the festive lighting contractors and our street lighting contractors to attend and carry out the required modifications. This was supported by a visit from Enfield officers who attended and was able to confirm that the tree was indeed leaning but it was still firm within its base so was not at risk of falling over.
Regardless an emergency crew with a crane were called out to lift out the tree and reinstall it so it stood plumb and upright
The below photographs show the tree as it was found (leaning) and after being straightened with the lorry and crane in the background.
Unfortunately the location of the tree means it has little protection from things such as high winds which in recent times has damaged many real trees along with property and other highway assets. With that in mind and with more inclement weather being forecast I have asked for this tree to be inspected every couple of days to ensure it remains secure, upright and enjoyable to all road users
