Response details:
Dear Cllr Stephanos Ioannou,
Thank you for your enquiry relating to the parking enforcement in the Southgate area
As you have made allegations of bribery in relation to the conduct of the Civil Enforcement Officers (CEO) this was raised with the contract manager for NSL who employ these officers. In order for them to carry out a full comprehensive investigation they would require additional information such as dates/times of incidences and if possible CEO shoulder numbers or a description of the officer. The Council take allegations of bribery seriously and want to ensure a full investigation can be carried out by NSL. . If any information or evidence to support the allegations is available, please send this to parking@enfield.gov.uk, this information would then be passed to NSL for them to investigate the conduct of their officers.
Regarding your other comments relating to the lack of enforcement or issues, please be advised that there have been recent management changes within Enfield Parking Services and NSL. This has resulted in a number of areas being reviewed and subsequent plans to make improvements being prepared. Parking Services are committed to improving the service and welcome any feedback that could help shape the way enforcement is carried out in the borough
In the meantime, additional enforcement will continue in the area, with a rotation of officers being carried out within the limits of the workforce available. In addition, supervisors will also monitor deployment and supervise the on-street officers in their patrols of Southgate.
Kind Regards
Parking Enforcement Manager
Original enquiry description:
Can I please ask for this to be directed and to receive a response by the Director of Parking Services in the council.
It’s becoming increasingly more apparent that people are not getting tickets when they should be in Southgate. On numerous occasion myself and other residents spot traffic wardens blatantly going past vehicles that should be ticketed and just simply walk past.
On other occasions we have witnessed traffic wardens getting extremely close, friendly and cozy with particular business owners and giving them just a simple slap on the wrist instead of issuing them with a PCN as should be procedure.
I’m not embarrassed to say, but I do believe that there are certain traffic wardens that receive ‘backhanders’ in our ward. Residents are aware of this and it’s become almost common knowledge that they receive some sort of gift in kind to avoid giving out tickets to the usual suspects.
Enough is enough. We kindly ask the department to change the rota entirely and all the traffic wardens that have been in Southgate woods and to change them on a monthly basis. Failure to do so will only make the issue persist.
As I have mentioned, we are aware that people are receiving gifts and are receiving backhanders. I’m 100% confident in saying that and can even provide evidence.
