MEQ- Southgate Road Safety

Response details:

Dear Cllr Stephanos Ioannou,

Thank you for your enquiry.

The Council’s traffic and road safety team does not have any active project work in train for the Southgate area in terms of traffic calming and similar. It’s road safety work, as funding is allocated year-by-year, continues to be focussed on the sections of street attracting the greatest number of injuries across the years before. At present the top ranked sites are elsewhere in the borough. However, the team is aware of recent enquiries about Chase Road and will keep this in mind when selecting future sites. Avenue Road may also be looked at in due course, in this case location-specific developer funding may be available.

I am aware that our Journeys and Places Team has been looking at how traffic uses Wynchgate, following the introduction of the neighbourhood scheme in previous years. Enquiries on that matter should be tagged for the Journeys and Places team.

  1. Chase Road is being used like a racing track, even the busses are speeding! Cars are being hit, history of people being run over.
THere are a number of schools on this stretch of road so speed limit should be enforced. The islands in the middle of the roads only make speeding more dangerous it is not.a deterent to slow down, the speeding cars loose control manuevoiring around threm.
