MEQ- Winchmore Hill Road – Road Works

Response details:

Dear Cllr Stephanos Ioannou,

Thank you for your enquiry concerning the ongoing works being undertaken by Thames Water on Winchmore Hill Road.

The works are part of Thames Water’s mains replacement scheme and this particular set of works is driven by the high number of leaks detected along this asset.

The works began in early April 2025 and were scheduled to be complete by mid-June. Unfortunately, Thames Water have come across a number of engineering difficulties with this replacement scheme and have now been granted an extension to the permit.

The works are now scheduled to be complete by 16th August 2025.

I appreciate the disruption that this scheme is causing to local residents and road users. However, the long term aim of this scheme is to avoid regular disruption in the future in the form of routine maintenance and repair work.

We have agreed a number of measures with Thames Water to try and combat any disruption being caused, namely the manual operation of the traffic signals on site. We also undertake regular inspections of the site and regularly discuss progress and/or ay issues arising with the works.

Kind regards
