Speed Camera Request High Street N14- MEQ

Dear Cllr Stephanos Ioannou,

101000860015 – Speed Camera Request High Street N14

Thank you for your enquiry passing on the request for the speed camera on High Street.

The powers to select sites for speed cameras and to place the equipment on roads in the capital sit with TfL, not with borough councils. For some years now, the department has only been able to respond with the same advice: TfLs review of its camera site criteria remains underway and we cannot say when any new cameras will be placed on the borough network. This remains the case. Residents feeling this to be unsatisfactory could, perhaps, raise it via their elected assembly members.

Otherwise, enforcement of speed limits sits with the local police. Residents may wish to contact Met Police about the possibility of a Community Roadwatch operation for High Street. Community Roadwatch aims to reduce speeding in residential areas and gives local residents the opportunity to work side by side with their local Police teams, using speed detection equipment to identify speeding vehicles in their communities.

To take part in Community Roadwatch, or to suggest a residential area where there are community concerns around speeding, members of the public can contact CommunityRoadwatch@met.police.uk stating the borough where they live. Enquiries are forwarded to the relevant local MPS Safer Transport Team, who will be in touch.

The public can also report dangerous, illegal, or antisocial road user behaviour directly to the Police via their online reporting tool, RoadSafe London. Every report helps the Police to understand where and when bad road user behaviour takes place, enabling resources to be targeted accordingly.

    1. Good morning. Thank you for your comments, which I have fully acknowledged.
I will be passing on your comments to the case officer that will be assigned for assessing and reviewing this application. And of course, as I have mentioned before, I am asking for this application to be taken to committee for correct scrutiny. I believe this application would not be a beneficial addition to the Southgate area and therefore I am sceptical and am asking for the application to be rejected.
However, in submitting your comments to the department, I would also appreciate it if you could log your comment independently to make sure that the system does process them and that they are involved in the local consultation that will be happening. I have provided the link for you below. Thank you for being involved in the process.
