Dear Cllr Stephanos Ioannou,
Thank you for your enquiry.
The department is always interested in any reasonable and viable measures to control excess speed on the borough’s roads. However, the addition of a speed camera is not something I can offer any assurances over. In the capital these are placed and maintained by TfL, not by boroughs. No new cameras have been placed on our streets over a period going back many years and I understand that TfL’s review of their speed camera criteria remains ongoing. Residents who find that disappointing might consider raising the issue with their assembly member representatives.
The Council continues to target road safety interventions on the streets where most injuries occur and to monitor road safety and vehicle speeds across its network.

Original enquiry description:
Can I please ask for an update on if the department responsible are considering a speed camera for Chase Road? This comes as there have been multiple crashes
Still to this day 25 December 2024, there are drivers, criminals doing speeds if in excess if 50mph on Chase Road Southgate N14. There are no traffic calming measures, no speed humps, no police or council measuring the average speed or volume of traffic on this road. The noise from the speeding criminals creates very LOUD noise pollution with the addition of modified exhausts adding to the noise which are also illegal. So out of the 63 councillors that Enfield has, not one councillor can make a change for the better?!?
The speed camera is not necessary. A police speed trap will work very well. Address this matter urgently!
