Dear Cllr Ioannou,
Thank you for your enquiry. Once again, please allow me to apologise for the delay in providing you with a response.
Since 2021, the Place Shaping team has worked with the Southgate community to develop projects aimed at improving the town centre’s ‘Everyday Experience.’ These projects, part of the Southgate Town Centre Action Plan, include creating community gathering spaces, improving the public realm, and celebrating Southgate’s heritage.
The green verge (Pocket Park) adjacent to Southgate Bus Station was identified as a priority site for public realm improvements during community engagement activities in 2022. Based on the feedback received from the public, the intervention focuses on enhancing the green space and the seating areas while creating a space where families and young people can gather and spend time together.
The budget for the Pocket Park project is £80,000, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The cost for the seating and stepping logs is £34,000.
More information about this project and others around Southgate Town Centre can be found on the project page here: https://letstalk.enfield.gov.uk/southgate
