MEQ- Homeless in Southgate

Response details:

Dear Cllr Stephanos Ioannou,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the old Southgate Police Station and the items in the entranceway.

This entranceway has recently been occupied by a male and female who are known to both the Street Homelessness and ASB team, as well as the Police.

Both the ASB and Street Homelessness team are working together to move this individual on from this sleep site.

I have had previous dealings with this couple, when they occupied another site not far from Chase Side, Southgate. They have been known to be aggressive in nature at times and have made threats to staff that tried to intervene and clear items from their previous sleep site.

Some of the items on site include personal belongings as well as general items gathered. As the site is private land and due to the previously known conduct of the occupants, it will not be cleared by the Street Cleansing crews. Any items on the public highway however, will be referred on for removal, if it is safe to do so.

Enquiries have been made with regards to the land owner of this site and a Community Protection Warning will be issued, requiring them to take the necessary steps to clear the land and prevent further unauthorised access to the premises and surrounding land within their boundary.

Original enquiry description:

Dear Team,

Can I please advise there is a massive mess outside the entrance to the Southgate police station that needs to be cleaned. Can I pelase ask for a waste crew to visit the site and remove:

-Chairs
-Shelving
-Sleeping bag and tent
-Any other tipping

Thank you
