Response details:
Dear Cllr Stephanos Ioannou,
Case Reference: 101001585076.
The flower bed outside Asda is not the responsibility of Highways, as the land is owned by Asda. Meanwhile, plans are underway for a planting scheme at the bed located at the corner of the Chase/Southgate junction. However, given the current heat conditions, no planting will take place just yet. In the coming weeks, the bed will be cleared in preparation for future planting.
As for the raingardens, they have not yet been handed over to LBE and remain under the care of the contractor who installed them. Maintenance should be coordinated with this contractor, as there is currently no budget allocated for their upkeep.
At present, all resources are focused on grass cutting, and in the upcoming month, cycle switches will be addressed to reallocate resources for additional work. During this period, maintenance of the raingardens will also be conducted. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Kind regards,
Original enquiry description:
I emailed you again last month with regard to the state of the two original flowerbeds in Southgate, one at the Southgate end of Chase Road and the other opposite Asda. Both have been neglected for years, with one long overdue repair made to a small part of the surrounding wall to the Chase Road flowerbed. That flowerbed, as I mentioned before, needs more repairs to the wall and is a mass of weeds choking the remaining shrubs.
If there is a team tasked with the maintenance of the Rain Gardens and the Log Seats by Nandos, surely they can make sure those two flowerbeds are also properly maintained? I appreciate that they might have originally been sponsored by local businesses, but it is obvious that nothing has been done about their upkeep for some years now.
I look forward to your reply.
